Audience
Our target audience will be mainly female because our artist is female, so would be less likely to attract a large male audience. Another reason we chose a mainly female audience is because of the nature of the song, a girl being in love with a male figure, which would be more suited to a female audience.
The age range of our audience will be from 16-27 because of the content of the lyrics, such as "Kill the bitch that bats an eye" and "I love you 'til the day I die," we thought it would be more appropriate for a more mature audience. Younger people (under 16's) are typically associated with listening to pop, whereas older people would be less likely to listen to this genre of music.

Market Research: UK Tribes
Indie Scenesters
Indie Scenesters are dedicated to finding the latest music - through the internet, record shops, and word of mouth. The main trait of this tribe is in fact their love of music, discovering new artists and spreading the sound. Their approach to music is based on finding independent artists that they like, rather than sticking to a certain genre - which is perfect for our artist as she is unconventional in her genre, standing out rather than fitting into a certain genre.
Brands associated with Indie Scenesters:
Creatives
Creatives are a branch of youth culture associated with creatives fields such as fashion, art, design, music, photography, dance and drama. They tend to be over 20 years old and their mentality is about developing their skills and working hard - even when living on a budget. Creatives are driven by success and are attracted to things that reflect their own style. This would be a good audience for our video as its contents will be unusual and have a more creative/interpretive spin on it when compared to other videos.

Makeup Ideas
These images are what we were thinking of for the makeup in the video. A black dramatic eyeliner and then to contrast with the black eyeliner a bright red lipstick. This would help with the vintage style that we were going for with the video and would also contrast with the neutral coloured outfits that we are using and add to the 50's theme through out the video.
Moodboard
Creating a mood board allows me to identify features that we could include in the music video. It also establishes themes and colour schemes that we would like to use.

Story Board update 4
This is the 4th update of the story board and helps to identify what the chorus of the video will look like and also helps to define the styling of the video more with the abstract theme.

Story board update 3
I have now done three pages of the story board which will help us to identify what props we want and where we want them. Also in the actual music video industry they would do this as it would help them to identify what was going on in each shot.

Clothing
For our video, we have decided that our singer should be in a floor length white dress and have found one from boohoo.com that we both agree will suit the artist and the song.
We liked this dress as it is simple, yet quirky, and it also looks vintage which fits in with the theme. As well as this, the dress will support the concept of the artist being slightly deranged - and because of the white it appears as though it could be a bridal gown so conforms to the song's and our video's connotations of a woman who is obsessed with a man.
Our second dress is a shorter grape coloured style. We decided we should have a second outfit for our performer to make it more interesting for the audience to watch as it mixes up the styles within the video. The colour is dark as we thought it would match the darker make up that we wanted to use to create the sense that our artist is darker than would seem with the angelic first outfit.

Biography
Sammy is a 19 year old artist from North London. She first started playing guitar when she was 8 years old and she has sang all of her life, influenced by various old generation artists such as David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, and Madonna. At the age of 14 she decided that she wanted to make a career out of being a singer - songwriter, so she began to upload her own songs onto Youtube. At 17 she signed a deal with a record company and soon after produced her first album 'Rush'
Rush
Rush got number 6 in the UK Top 40 and gained Sammy a huge following of fans who she keeps in touch with on Twitter. The album also got reviewed in NME which named Sammy as a new up and coming artist and one to watch out for.
Velvet Elvis
Sammy's latest single is called Velvet Elvis, it is an alternative quirky style song that illustrates an obsession with a male figure - Elvis. It has clear inspiration from her favourite music artists that she grew up listening to. The song has a clear direction and shows all of the different vintage elements that Sammy has grown up with helping to create a vintage feel for her song.

Lyrics - Velvet Elvis
Ma said, I ain't right
Clutching on you all night
But you're my, you're my guy, Elvis
Slice my starry eye
Light his coat in turpentine
Kill the bitch that bats an eye, Elvis
Chorus
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
Hold your frame, whisper your name
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
And you don't breathe, so you can't leave
And they're comin'
they're comin'
they're comin'
whoaa no (x4)
(Touch) Shackled arms are tight, cause' papa said I cross the line
Carve us in our special time, Elvis
Now it's five by five
Finger paint and circle time
I love you till the day I die, Elvis
Chorus
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
Hold your frame, whisper your name
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
And you don't breathe, so you can't leave
And they're comin'
they're comin'
they're comin'
whoaa no (x4)
Chorus
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
Hold you by the frame, whisper your name
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
And you don't breathe, so you can't leave
And they're comin'
they're comin'
they're comin'
whoaa no (x4)
And they're comin' (When I feel your velvet, I can't help it)
they're comin'
they're comin'
whoaa no (x2)
And they're comin' (When I feel your velvet, I can't help it)
they're comin'
they're comin'

Song Change
We have decided to change our song from Postcard by Bridgit Mendler to Velvet Elvis by Alex Winston after a lot of discussion. We believe that this change allow us to have more of a creative input on the video and how it can be interpreted.
Postcard was a song that needed a narrative to go with it, and the narrative that we felt it needed was far too complex for us to achieve in the short amount of time we were filming. We felt that if we attempted to film a music video for that song, it would end up being a low standard that would not show our capability as media students. For example, the lyrics talked about girls playing baseball and boys doing ballet and being into fashion - but we decided that we could not rely on enough actors to turn up on time to partake in the shooting. Therefore we then decided it should be a performance video, but felt that a performance would not be appropriate for the song. Thus we decided to choose a different song and create a video that we felt we could put our own creative imprint on.

Evaluating Class Feedback
Feedback we have received has consistently stated that our age range of under 16's is too narrow, so therefore we have decided to change it to 12-18's. This will allow us to provide for a wider audience and will fit well with our target market of Tumblr Kids.
We have also decided that our video will be a performance rather than a narrative as this will allow us to work to a higher standard to produce a more professional looking video
Because we are doing a performance we will therefore film in a white studio to produce a cleaner more pristine look.

Weekly Update
Over the past week we have completed market research, on UK Tribes and by creating an audience profile. We also created a biography of our artist to show a bit about her life and who she is. As well as this, we each made a mood board to give us ideas about the concept of our video.

Moodboard
Moodboard
In order to find inspiration for our video, I created a mood board of images associated with the genre of music. This will give me ideas of colour schemes, costume and other concepts to include in our music video.
Inspirational Album Covers
During my research into different artists and genres of music I looked at album artwork. This allowed me to identify similar themes that were in each piece of artwork, such as the name of the artist and an image created to catch the audiences attention. Only around 15 of the albums actually feature the singer or the band on the album, with most favouring to use art instead to make their album eye catching. This shows me that in order to make a good album cover, the artist is not needed.
However more of the well known artists such as Paloma Faith, James Blunt, Shy'm (A french singer), and Taylor Swift, actually use portraits of themselves on the album. This would imply that the more well known a singer becomes, the more they use themselves and their image as a unique selling point, whereas the lesser known artists, or those with a more alternative genre are likely to use other artwork such as paintings.
Magazine adverts
These magazine adverts are analysis of other texts. These help me to understand what singles, albums and tours of music artists are advertised like. The Verve advert is quite a simple and plain design of a sepia picture of clouds with fields as the background , these then have the bands name and the name of the single below it. This will be useful when we come to designing the music video's advert, this also helps to give an insight into the sort of things that we need to think about how the music video is represented. The Muse poster is a lot darker with a picture of the band as the background. It has a big bold logo of the bands name in the top left hand corner and also the date of the of the tour. The bands album cover is then placed in a section to the left hand side of the poster about midway down. This shows which album the band is performing on the tour.
Video's for inspiration
In this video I really like the way that the music sounds really relaxing and is sort of magical and the video is magical to the man.
I really like how the bubbles lead the story along and how the man is inspired to go on a journey in order to be able to find where they came from and how to make them. I think that this is a really good story line.
I also really like the way that the video is simple and looks good even though it has the different simple components.
I really like the way this video is created because when certain sounds happen the different lights come on. I also like the fact that the video is set in one space and then has different toys that come to life throughout the video. I think this is a really creative idea.
I really like this video where it is a band performing and then switiching to a storyline, I think this is what we would do in our own video

I used these images as I thought that they were bright and inspiring for the future project of the digipak. I also feel as though these are inspiring for the music video because of the colours in them.

She adores feelgood songs and summery anthems. Jenny enjoys nothing more than finding new artists over the internet and following their profiles on her internet accounts.
Market Research: UK Tribes
After looking on the website UK Tribes, we have concluded that the branch of youth culture that would be best associated with our song and video would be the Tumblr Kids. This 'tribe' is obsessed with following people and sharing things about themselves via technology, on sites such as Twitter and of course Tumblr.
Brands associated with Tumblr Kids:
We decided to go with the Tumblr Kids because they are of a younger age - mostly under 16 - compared to other social groups. There is also a female bias and these factors combined would cause the Tumblr Kids to be more attracted to our artist's style of music.
UK Tribes states that Tumblr Kids re-blog images that show who they are, such as 'fashion icons, cult films, lyrics, and pets.' UK Tribes largely bases its explanation of Tumblr Kids on the 'Tumblr Famous' bloggers, with their dip dyed hair and vintage clothes, however when I used to go on Tumblr I noted that the majority of people on there were in fanbases of their favourite TV, actors, books, films, music etc. Therefore within these smaller branches of Tumblr, news of albums, singles and music video releases would travel fast - and new artists that were on Tumblr could easily connect to their audience, so build up a bigger following.
